The Boston Red Sox have shown that they are willing to make significant changes at any point when the front office feels they are called for.
Well before the trade deadline last year, the team sent franchise slugger Rafael Devers to the San Francisco Giants in a shocking move. And more recently, the team fired long-time manager Alex Cora and replaced him with Chad Tracy in hopes of turning their season around.
And the Red Sox are evidently willing to explore some under-the-radar additions to the lower levels of the organization as well.

Boston Red Sox Sign Former San Francisco Giants Pitcher
On Tuesday, news surfaced that the Red Sox had signed left-handed reliever Raymond Burgos to a minor-league contract.
“The Red Sox signed the lanky left-hander away from the Guerreros de Oaxaca of the Liga Mexicana de Beisbol,” Leif Skodnick reported for World Baseball Network. “He had made three starts for the Guerreros thus far in 2026, throwing 12 innings and allowing nine earned runs on 19 hits, walking two and striking out eight while posting a WHIP of 1.167.”
Burgos could now have the chance to return to a big-league mound for the first time since being released by the Giants last year, which followed a single appearance for the team in which he gave up three hits, a walk and an earned run in a single inning in 2024.
He re-signed with the Giants for 2025, but never appeared in the majors, as he posted a 6.68 ERA with 34 strikeouts and one save in 26 appearances split between Triple-A and Double-A instead.
He also pitched for Team Puerto Rico in the most recent iteration of the World Baseball Classic, making two appearances and racking up four strikeouts.

Boston Red Sox Bolster Lefty Depth With New Addition
The Red Sox seem to have honed in on Burgos as a potential Triple-A relief option.
“The Red Sox currently have two lefties in the bullpen, flamethrowing closer Aroldis Chapman and Jovani Moran, and the Sox starting pitching depth chart features lefties Ranger Suarez, Connelly Early, Payton Tolle and Jake Bennett,” Skodnick added. “Down on the farm, however, there are just two lefties in the bullpen at Triple-A Worcester: Eduardo Rivera, who is active, and T.J. Sikkema, who is currently on the seven-day Injured List.”
If Burgos is able to show something compelling for the Red Sox in the minors, perhaps he’ll get another shot at the big leagues soon as the team looks to turn things around.
