But didn’t he wanna give up his powers and doubt himself in Ragnarok. Wasn’t that the whole thing? Haven’t we seen Spider-Man struggle with the weight of his powers all the time?

Dude it’s been celebrated a ton in super hero stuff. Kingdom Come is Superman being like na I’m good.

That's the storyline for many films, not just superhero ones. The main character struggles with whether they are making a difference or if they matter in the grand scheme of things. Usually, some event or events happen that reassure them of just how important they are and that they are doing all they can to make a real difference in the world. Heck, that's a big part of everyone's life, in general.

So it's the same issues as Superman. The main character is acted fantastically but the villian / movie combo is underwhelming / goofy.

Well, it's the same old story that we see in most Superhero movies, doesn't matter if it's Marvel or DC.

I definitely disliked the villain, I wish they could have developed him a bit more, but the actor was certainly limited. I kept fixating on the fact that he decided to use a Russian accent.

That said, this movie is getting way more hate than it deserves. It didn't make as much as Morbius or The Marvels, but it was far superior to either one of those movies, for sure.

I would counter that Thor 4 and Antman 2 had excellent villians. Just everything else sucked.

Even good marvel movies had bad villains. Outside of Kingpin and Kilgrave, most Marvel tv villains are terrible. And I was never a fan of villains that were just evil versions of the hero (see Iron Man for example).

Oof, only $8.6m in weekend 2 and down 77%. It hasn't even broken $100m worldwide yet and might struggle to beat Master of the Universe at the box. It looks like it's going to loose over $200m right now. Does Gunn survive another flop of this size after the poor performance of everything else?

It still amazes me how badly WB has handled DC over the last 20 years. They've been sitting on an IP goldmine but have bumbled it every step of the way. They should have been riding the comic book wave with Marvel. Especially after having The Dark Knight come out at the starting point of it.

Right, I meant it as WB mismanagement of DC to not take advantage of the momentum that they had from TDK and Nolan. Both TDK and Iron Man were hits that year. Marvel used it to go to the moon while WB self destructed on the launch pad.

Aside from some hero fatigue audiences seemed to be having, it was compounded by the fact that they made him alter his original announcement of no unconnected universes. Right out the gate the studio interfered with his plans. Then they moved forward with Joker 2 and some other films that were not in his plans.

James was supposed to bring order to chaos and some of that Marvel magic. However, I was nervous about it after seeing Suicide Squad 2. I had issues with Superman. Then his announced lineup of coming projects seemed pretty lackluster. Now Supergirl.

Plus, if you look at the announced roadmap, it doesn't exactly light the world on fire. Clayface, Man of Tomorrow (OK, this will excite some), Batman: The Brave and the Bold (this could be good or a disaster), Wonder Woman, More Swamp Thing, The Authority, Teen Titans, Deathstroke/Bane Team up, TV series Lantern and Waller.

A couple of these I don't think anybody is asking for. I am still hoping he can do it, but I had doubts before and now I really have my doubts.

if they jump in and do a fully budgeted Swamp Thing thats something I can really get behind honestly....LOVE me some swamp thing...and honestly with the world being ever so slightly more focused on the environment now than we were back in 1979 or so.... they could turn swamp thing into a monstrous franchise that funds the whole thing... they just cant fork it up right out of the gate.
a mutated Super Hero who fights for the planet while being ostracized from mankind because he is a plant monstrosity?? Hell yeah,.. millennials and Zoomers would both eat that up if it is packaged and presented properly.

I dunno...I am probably overstating it due to my fandom of Swampy... but I can see it being a nice formula for a hit if they play it right...
They just dont seem to be able to play literally "Anything" right
