Andruw Monasterio's Glasses Work Well For Red Sox Vs. White Sox originally appeared on NESN. Add NESN as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
Andruw Monasterio has an endearing look to him in the batter's box for the Boston Red Sox.
When he arrived in the offseason trade from the Milwaukee Brewers, he brought with him his glasses.
Not many MLB players wear prescription glasses, but Monasterio does.
In fact, the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel wrote of him last season, "At 5 foot 11 and 195 pounds he's no physical marvel, and with his ever-present glasses Monasterio appears more bookish than anything."
That's such an unlikely but fun description of a baseball player.

How glasses worked for Andruw Monasterio vs. White Sox
Whether the glasses are the right move or not in the long run, they clearly worked on Tuesday night against the Chicago White Sox.
With the platoon advantage against Chicago southpaw Noah Schultz, Monasterio turned on a home run deep and gone to left field:
Monasterio, whose name is spelled the same as the legendary Andruw Jones, doesn't play every day. He gets chances like these against lefties.
And if he keeps doing this, he'll keep getting starts.
Monasterio is a versatile guy who can play all over the diamond. If his bat can work, too, it'll be good news for Boston going forward.
Add onto that the glasses that can help Monasterio be particularly endearing to the Red Sox faithful, and he's doing something right.
