Red Sox predicted to trade former Yankees shortstop to NL West club originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
The Boston Red Sox are at the bottom of the American League standings, and things don't appear to be getting better anytime soon.
Even after their victory last night against the New York Yankees.
The Red Sox may have dug themselves too deep a hole to climb back up and make a run to the postseason. Naturally, that would make them obvious sellers at the trade deadline.
One of the players they should consider moving is a utility man who was once the starting shortstop for the New York Yankees.
"It's hard to find an exciting fit for Isiah Kiner-Falefa, mostly on account of the fact that he isn't a particularly exciting player," Bleacher Report's Zachary D. Rymer wrote. "He's a versatile defender with a good bat-to-ball skill, and that's about the end of the elevator pitch."
Rymer listed the San Diego Padres as the best fit for Kiner-Falefa, who has a .277 batting average with two home runs in 132 trips to the plate this season.
"If IKF went to San Diego, though, he would help with a downstream improvement of a Padres outfield that has produced only 1.3 rWAR," Rymer added.
"He could play second base, with Fernando Tatis Jr. moving back to right field and Samad Taylor moving into part-time duty in left and center."

In the trade, the Padres would send outfield prospect Jase Bowen to the Red Sox. He's shown decent power at Triple-A, hitting 13 homers.
IKF wouldn't solve the Padres' offensive problems, but he could offer them more versatility in the lineup and on the field.
