Red Sox make trade decision on Aroldis Chapman, 2 other pitchers originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
The Boston Red Sox are a long ways off from having the kind of season they'd want to have.
That puts them in prime position, about two months out from the trade deadline, to consider whether they'd be sellers -- could relief pitchers like Aroldis Chapman, Garrett Whitlock and Justin Slaten be available?
Sounds like, at least right now, they aren't.
WEEI's Rob Bradford posted this on X on Saturday with an up-to-date trade block update as it pertains to the three relievers:
Hearing RIGHT NOW teams are being told no when asking about Chapman, Whitlock and Slaten.

The key, of course, are those two words in all capital letters from Bradford: "right now."
Lots can still change. If the Red Sox go on a big losing streak, a lot more players could all of a sudden become available.
If the Red Sox go on a big winning streak, they could actually turn into buyers at some point.
It's far too early for a big-market team like Boston to punt on this season and start trading key bullpen arms.
If they eventually reach the point of seeking out such deals, Chapman, Whitlock and Slaten could return quality value to the Red Sox.
In the meantime, they'll keep doing what they can to try and turn this season around, because this isn't what the Red Sox envisioned for the 2026 campaign at all.
