A random report popped up on social media suggesting the Chicago White Sox were going to make a trade for Aroldis Chapman.
The White Sox, who have been one of the surprise teams around Major League Baseball, are expected to be buyers at this year's deadline. Reports had indicated prior to the 15-game winning streak for the Red Sox that they were going to be sellers, though the expectation now is for them to be buyers.
Regardless, moving on from Chapman was already a question even before the Red Sox went on this massive winning streak, so trading him to the White Sox didn't feel all that likely. According to the latest report from one Red Sox insider, there's no validity to the report suggesting that Chapman will land in Chicago at the moment.
“Had someone shoot down that Aroldis Chapman-White Sox thing at warp speed. Carry on,” Chris Cotillo wrote.
I think it's a good sign that the Red Sox aren't messing around here and understand that they have a really good team that's clicking at the right time.
The problem for the Red Sox throughout the year has never been based on talent, though if they continued to play the way they had early on, trading a guy like Chapman would have made a lot of sense. Now, however, the Red Sox don't have much of a reason to go in that direction.
