Franklin Arias is getting close.
The star shortstop prospect is climbing the ladder toward the Boston Red Sox, and at this rate, he could have a chance to impact the MLB postseason race before the season is over.
Right now, he's going to be moving one step away.
Arias has spent the entire season with Double-A Portland, but on Thursday night, he was promoted to Triple-A Worcester, according to Tommy Cassell of the Worcester Telegram and Gazette.
In his final game with Portland, Arias blasted his 19th home run of the season:

Arias has the best chance of anyone in Boston's organization of being their shortstop of the future.
This season, given Trevor Story's injury troubles, Arias also has a real chance to challenge to be shortstop of the present in September and October.
First, he'll have to prove he can handle Triple-A, but the way he's playing, he likely can.
Then, the big leagues could be next.

Arias is ranked the No. 7 prospect in the entire sport by MLB Pipeline, and the top prospect in the Boston system.
Still just 20, Arias has a chance to make an earlier-than-expected debut like Xander Bogaerts once did for the Red Sox.
That worked out really well when Bogaerts did it, and maybe Arias can capture that same magic.
