Currently with a record of 25-34, the Boston Red Sox are in a bit of a rut. They aren’t losing enough to call this year a tank season, but they aren’t winning enough to be a real contender.

They need something to shake things up, and doing something like calling up their top prospect in Franklin Arias could do that. Arias has been destroying in AA, and could skip AAA altogether.

This year in AA, Arias has been dominating. He’s been slashing .327/.397/.630/1.026 with eight doubles, a triple, 13 home runs and 33 RBI in 42 games.

With this statline, Arias has shot up to being the No. 5 overall prospect in the MLB on Baseball America, and is No. 10 in the MLB’s Top 100. With that in mind, giving him the call to the big leagues might be one of the best moves Boston can make at the moment.

Arias and Marcelo Mayer would create a fantastic middle infield duo

Marcelo Mayer was the Sox’s former No. 1 prospect, and is now their starting second baseman and shortstop. With Trevor Story out, Arias could be called up to fill either second base or shortstop, and Mayer would fill the other spot.

Arias and Mayer are also only 20 and 23 years old respectively, so they would occupy the middle infield for a long time, and would be very cost-effective. Mayer still has two seasons before arbitration, and Arias has yet to be called up.

The stars would need to align to make this happen

Arias’ bat would also give the Sox something they desperately need at the moment, consistent power. It seems the Sox are going to try calling up Anthony Seigler first, as he also is tearing up the minors, as he is a driving force for the AAA Worcester team.

However, if that doesn’t work out, calling up Arias next could work. Having him skip AAA wouldn’t be a new thing for Boston, as they did it with Payton Tolle.

It’s also very hard to ignore his amazing stats. The Sox at least need to see if he can produce now, and they can always send him down if things don’t work out.
