The Boston Red Sox are on the outside looking in at the postseason.

But all hope is not lost. A weak American League could see the Red Sox sneak in as one of the three Wild Card teams.

One thing that must change for the Red Sox to have a chance is the lack of power in the lineup. Boston ranks dead last in the Majors with just 49 home runs.

"Boston -- the Boston Red Sox, tenants of Fenway Park -- ranks last in the majors in home runs. It seems impossible for even a bad Red Sox team to do that," ESPN's Bradford Doolittle wrote Wednesday. "Boston has fewer homers at home than any other team and is averaging 3.3 runs per game at Fenway while going 10-21 there."

Meanwhile, Boston's arch rivals, the New York Yankees, have hit an MLB high 97 homers this year. That's almost twice the amount the Red Sox have hit.

Ben Rice and Aaron Judge, who is currently on the injured list, have combined to hit 35 of New York's long balls this season.

Should the Red Sox add power at the deadline? That depends on where they fall in the standings by August 3.

Right now, Willson Contreras is the Red Sox's biggest contributor in the slugging department. He's going to need more help if they want to turn things around.
