The Boston Red Sox have had a rough 2026 season, and one of the biggest storylines has been the struggles and absence of Roman Anthony.

He's been out for some time due to a wrist issue and has been on the injured list for some time as he tries to overcome this injury. But now, things have taken a turn for the worse.

As Rob Bradford of WEEI shared, Red Sox president of baseball operations Sam Kennedy, on The Greg Hill Show, revealed that Anthony has a new injury.

Roman Anthony has a sprained ligament in his finger

"Sam Kennedy on @TheGregHillShow says Roman Anthony has a sprain in ligament on base of ring finger. No tear," Bradford shared on Twitter/x.

This is a worrying update for Anthony, as it's not his wrist issue that forced him onto the injured list; it's a new problem that is forcing him to be shut down for the time being.

Whether this finger ligament sprain is a more accurate description of Anthony's injury than a wrist problem, this update does not bode well for a quick return.

He's not been able to get back into the swing of things, as his recent attempt to work back by swinging a bat didn't go well, and forced the Red Sox to shut him down for a moment.

Now, the Red Sox are going to have to wait to see how this ligament sprain will recover, as the 22-year-old is set to miss a while longer due to this injury that isn't getting any better.

Anthony has a .229 average with a .675 OPS in 30 games this season. He's struggled a bit, and now, it looks like he's going to miss quite some time due to this worrying sprained ligament in his ring finger.
