Red Sox End Rollercoaster Month On High Note Despite Extremely Bizarre Trend originally appeared on NESN. Add NESN as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
May 2026 might go down as one of the weirdest months in Boston Red Sox history.
At first glance, the month doesn't seem that unusual. The Red Sox went 13-14 with a plus-11 run differential, which doesn't seem particularly notable.
However, how they reached that record was quite bizarre. Boston played nine series in May, all three games apiece.
Shockingly, the Red Sox lost all five of their home series, going 4-11 at Fenway Park. They were outstanding on the road, however, winning three of their four road series and going 9-3 away from Fenway.
That led to an extremely inconsistent month from Boston, which was hot on the road and cold at home. The offense went nine straight games in the middle of the month without scoring more than three runs, but finished May strong with 5.55 runs per game in the 11 games since.
Fortunately for the Red Sox, they still enter June with some momentum after taking back-to-back road games from the Cleveland Guardians to close out May, scoring nine runs in both wins.
Time will tell if Boston's quirky home/road splits carry over into June. The Red Sox's 16-14 road record is impressive, but they must improve on their 9-19 mark at home if they want to get back in the playoff race.
