The Boston Red Sox have endured several rough homestands this season, but their latest one might have been their most painful yet.

The Red Sox went 1-5 against the Minnesota Twins and Atlanta Braves, continuing their shockingly poor play at Fenway Park this year and squandering their momentum from last week's road sweep of the Kansas City Royals.

Four of Boston's five losses were by two runs or less, so at least most of the games were competitive. Thursday's got away from the Red Sox, however, as their bullpen collapsed in their series finale against the Braves.

The game was tied 2-2 heading into the top of the sixth after another strong outing by Payton Tolle. Boston's bullpen was well-rested, too, after Wednesday night's 8-0 victory, but it didn't matter.

The Red Sox relief corps surrendered eight runs over the final four innings, serving up three home runs as Atlanta surged to a 10-2 rout. Ronald Acuna Jr. effectively ended the game with his crushing grand slam off Greg Weissert in the sixth, putting the Braves up by five runs at the time.

The loss dropped Boston to 23-32 and a season-low nine games below .500. The Red Sox have now lost six straight series at Fenway Park, where they are 9-19 with a negative 24-run differential.

Fortunately, Boston's played much better on the road, where it will try to turn things around against the Cleveland Guardians this weekend. The AL Central-leading Guardians are one of the hottest teams in baseball, however, with a 17-9 record in May.
