Boston Red Sox first baseman Willson Contreras, fresh off a World Baseball Classic championship as a member of Team Venezuela, became the latest MLB player to praise the WBC experience in higher regard than the World Series.
"I think it’s the best experience of my life." Contreras said on Thursday about the WBC, per MassLive's Chris Cotillo. "I played in the World Series in ‘16 and it was big but playing the WBC for your country, for 37 million people, means a lot more to me."

Contreras won a World Series with the Chicago Cubs in 2016, but it's obvious that his win with Venezuela this week meant a lot more.
The Red Sox are hoping that Contreras and Wilyer Abreu will take that winning energy into the MLB season. Similarly, Boston hopes Roman Anthony -- would have a tremendous WBC as a member of Team USA -- can carry his momentum into the regular season and beyond.
