The relationship didn't have to be obvious, but it was there.
The relatively simple name, Luke Nixon, was drafted by the San Francisco Giants as part of the fifth round of the 2026 MLB Draft at No. 150 overall.
Nixon, in this case though, is the key point. Luke is the son of Trot Nixon, the 2004 Boston Red Sox World Series champion.
Trot was once the No. 7 overall pick by the Red Sox in the 1993 MLB draft out of New Hanover High School in Wilmington, North Carolina.
He went on to play his first 10 MLB seasons with Boston, including that famed World Series title in 2004.
Nixon also played for the Cleveland Indians and New York Mets before retiring.
He hit .274 for his career with 222 doubles and 137 home runs.

Now, his son Luke will try to follow in some big footsteps.
Luke is different right off the bat, because he's an infielder. And he went to play in college first, standing out for three seasons at North Carolina State.
This spring, Luke hit .367 with 16 doubles, three triples, nine home runs and 45 RBI.
He also finished the year for the Wolfpack on an active 15-game hitting streak.
Luke played second base with great comfort for NC State, and that's likely the position he'll try to make it in with the Giants.
San Francisco is likely heading for a bit of a rebuild, so there could be chances in a few years if Luke is able to push his way up the ladder.
He'll certainly be doing so with a high-end pedigree, and with a strong mentor to lean on if he needs one.
