For the better part of two days, football fans watched ESPN draft guru Mel Kiper Jr. have meltdown after meltdown every time a quarterback-needy team passed on Colorado’s Shedeur Sanders.

By the time Sanders was picked by the Cleveland Browns in the fifth round, Kiper Jr. had had enough.

As the ESPN draft crew discussed why Sanders, who was projected to go in the first round by some scouts and most draft experts, slid all the way to the 144th overall pick, Kiper lost his cool.

He went on an anger-filled rant, calling out the NFL for letting a player he felt was just as talented as Miami’s Cam Ward, who was picked No. 1 overall by the Tennessee Titans on Thursday, free fall all the way to the fifth round.

“I don’t know what we’re talking about here. Is it personality issues?” Kiper Jr. shouted before being interrupted by colleague Louis Riddick, who made the point that Sanders’ draft slide had little to do with his talent, his coachability, his upside, or any potential off-the-field red flags, instead claiming it was personal.

“College GameDay” host Rece Davis then jumped in, acknowledging that Sanders got a raw deal but urging Kiper Jr. not to pick a fight with the entire league because of it.

“The NFL has been clueless for 50 years when it comes to evaluating quarterbacks…CLUELESS”

“It’s not putting a value judgement on whether those who passed were right or wrong, they did, so now, whether you like them or you don’t like them, whether they’re fair or whether they’re unfair, you might have to deal with them,” Davis said. “And now Shedeur Sanders has to deal with it. … Now he has an opportunity to answer [his critics]. I think yelling at the NFL about it is not productive.”

While Davis’ comments only angered Kiper Jr. more, fans on social media were loving the heated back-and-forth, with many users in favor of Davis firing back at Kiper Jr.

“Rece Davis is such a restrained guy and he’s in the fight of his life trying not to come unglued on Mel on national TV,” one fan replied.

“My god Reece Davis just put Mel Kiper in a body bag over Shedeur Sanders,” another quipped.

“@ReceDavis wanted to bring up Mel’s track record so badly when he said the NFL is clueless well done by him to just throw a jab instead of a haymaker. Meanwhile, @FieldYates wants to switch chairs with someone ,” a third fan remarked.

“Shout out to Reece Davis. Put the nail in the coffin. Todd McShay is a better evaluator of football talent than Mel Kiper,” one user stated.

“Thank you Reece for being the one sane one ,” another user noted.

While most agreed Davis put Kiper Jr. in his place, the longtime ESPN draft expert had to get the final word.

“The NFL has been clueless for 50 years when it comes to evaluating quarterbacks,” he shouted. “They have no idea what they’re doing in terms of evaluating quarterbacks. That’s proof — there’s proof of that. They think they know exactly what they’re talking about with quarterbacks; they don’t.”
