Indianapolis Colts' quarterback Daniel Jones has had a strong showing throughout training camp. He then carried that performance over to the team's joint practice with the New England Patriots.
According to The Athletic's James Boyd, Jones made "a number of impressive throws," although the offense largely hit a wall in the red zone.
To end practice, the Colts' offense ran a two-minute drill against the Patriots' defense. Jones would go 4-for-6, Boyd noted, and threw a "game-winning" touchdown pass to Josh Downs with four seconds left.
Despite Jones' overall performance, Joel Erickson of the Indy Star wrote that he often had to hold the ball as his outside wide receivers struggled to get home, and that was with the Patriots' top two cornerbacks -- Christian Gonzalez and Carlton Davis -- on the sidelines.
But in those instances when there was nowhere to go with the ball, Tyler Warren became the go-to target. Josh Downs came through with several receptions as well.
Steichen said afterward that Jones will not play in the preseason game on Thursday, as expected.
