I think you underestimate how hard it is for a rookie QB to win on the road, especially at a place that's difficult to win like Arrowhead. It's not like the Chiefs are stiffs on D; it's their O that has been struggling.

Carolina could beat us and Jimmy Clausen wouldn't have to complete a pass. We have to figure out how to stop the run, or that game will be over before it begins. I think they could win one of those three and still deserve to win the division, if only because I don't expect any of our division opponents to win a single game on the road.
I agree for the most part. I just think that the Cards have the ability to win all three. Of course, they are the Cards, so each will be a bloodbath decided in the last two minutes.

No, I'm with you. I think we'll finish 8-8 (which was my preseason prediction) and maybe make the playoffs on tiebreakers (Seattle remains my tentative favorite, but I don't know how much better they're going to get over the season--we'll have to see how Lynch plays for them). I like the way the schedule breaks down, but it's not like we're entering an easy stretch through the bye week.

A key is Tampa Bay. The Bengals are a weird team wherever they play. As bad as Carson Palmer is right now, I don't know if he's much worse than Max Hall, but their running game is really good--much better than ours with #6 under center. If we can go 2-2 in this next stretch, we'll be in contention all season. All you have to do is win one of quarter of the season and tie the rest. This team hasn't lost two games in a row in 9 consecutive chances.

If we can beat Tampa at home and win another road game, it'll be difficult to wrestle the division from our grasp. But I think those are two big "ifs".

this is pretty much my thinking. We win the Tampa game and we win the division.

oh, I fully believe we'll get killed by KC but this team has a solid shot of beating Carolina, even on the road. By then, the long season will have taken it's toll on them and I think they'll be ripe for our lone road win outside of St. Louis.

With a team this young, a 2-6 road record would be an accomplishment, IMO. Don't discount Mike Singletary losing his mind and following his former running back into the ministry by Week 12 and having an interim coach for a 49ers team that has nothing to play for (including pride) in Week 17.

We're 2-0 at home right now. We have 3 divisional games left, and we have to win all of them. Dallas, Denver, and Tampa left at home. Tampa seems like the most winnable game. I haven't seen enough of Denver to say how we match up with them.

Yamon. Also Dallas on Christmas is going to be a biggie as far as our play off hopes.

this is a good point. that being said, that team HATES us and if they get a chance to play spoiler, you know they'll come out with everything they've got to screw us on the last day of the season.

yeah, they gotta win out inside the division at home, no doubt. And who knows, Dallas might have completely imploded by then with Garret as HC, which would be just as much, if not more of a disaster than Phillips.

Hey guys-----I want to personally thank each of the contributors that have answered on this thread. Part of what I hoped to accomplish by starting it, was to give everybody the opportunity to get involved, and thereby help to pass the long off period before we play again, yet, get some real discussion going here. You guys responded beautifully and I am deeply indebted to you. There was some really good discussion here, both for and against not just my posts on this thread, but for and against rebuttal threads. That is what makes this board so great, and no one got mad, or called anybody names, or went overboard with their accusations of anyone else. You just can't find this on any other board that I know of, and again, I personally commend you.
