Ben Stiller‘s viral courtside videos from the 2026 NBA Finals are more than social media content. The Hollywood director and lifelong New York Knicks fan is reportedly filming an HBO documentary about the franchise’s historic postseason run.

Stiller recently confirmed on ESPN’s NBA Tip-Off that he has a “project in the works” after clips from Madison Square Garden gained attention online. According to reports, he has been documenting the Knicks’ Finals journey using his iPhone from Celebrity Row and during behind-the-scenes team access sessions.

What makes the footage stand out is Stiller’s filmmaking approach. Instead of recording standard smartphone video, he shoots in Apple Log format. The setting captures flat, grey-toned footage that preserves detail in shadows and highlights.

Stiller then color-grades the clips himself and has recently shared a dramatic black-and-white look capturing Game 4 celebrations, similar to traditional documentary films. His ultra-wide courtside angles have offered fans a unique perspective of the action and crowd atmosphere.

Take a look at Stiller’s iPhone video from Knicks vs. Spurs Game 4.

The timing of the project could not be better.

The Knicks now hold a 3-1 lead over the Spurs in the NBA Finals and sit one win away from their first championship since 1973. Their latest victory was one for the history books.

New York erased a 29-point deficit in Game 4 before OG Anunoby tipped in Jalen Brunson’s missed three-pointer with 1.2 seconds remaining to secure a 107-106 win.

“That has to be the most iconic shot in the history of New York basketball,” Knicks coach Mike Brown said after the game.

The comeback highlighted what has defined New York throughout the playoffs. Brunson’s leadership, Anunoby’s versatility, and the team’s defensive commitment have repeatedly kept them alive in difficult moments.

So, Stiller’s documentary is arriving at the perfect time. This Knicks group is not winning through star power alone. Their structure, resilience and ability to respond under pressure have become the story of the postseason.

If New York finishes the job, Stiller’s iPhone footage could become the visual record of one of the most memorable championship runs in franchise history.
