The Tampa Bay Rays just keep winning.

The road trip continues to be a success as the team picked up their 9th straight win after taking down the Houston Astros 3-1 at Daikin Park Friday night. The win moves the Rays to 52-33 on the season and now 3 full games ahead of the New York Yankees for the division lead.

Here is what you need to know from the contest.

Another Solid Night from Rays Pitching Staff

Nick Martinez got the game started with 5.1 innings of good work. Other than allowing a solo home run to Yordan Alvarez in the 6th inning, he was near-flawless. His ERA now moves down to 2.61 on the season and continues to make strides toward making his first All-Star Game.

The bullpen followed him with 3.2 innings of scoreless baseball. Kevin Kelly, Casey Legumina, and Bryan Baker did not allow a hit in the win against the Astros.

Caminero Picks Right Back Up

After having a rare game Thursday where he didn't go deep, Junior Caminero hit another home run on Friday night against the Astros. The solo shot in the top of the seventh inning was his 25th of the season and 10th across the last 10 games. He is the first player since Joey Votto in 2021 to hit 10 home runs in a 10-game span.

The fact that he is continuing his dominance in Houston, where his biggest competition for AL MVP, Yordan Alvarez, plays, definitely is worth mentioning.

Rest of Rays Bats Showed Warning Signs?

Other than Caminero and Nick Fortes, who also hit a home run as well as an RBI Double, the rest of the Rays batting order was quite stagnant. The team picked up 8 strikeouts and home recorded 5 hits on the day, 2 of them coming outside Fortes and Caminero.

Although pitching was dominant and they picked up the win, it's worth keeping an eye on after how the beginning of June began with a slump due to a lack of offensive production.

Before the game began, Rays outfielder Chandler Simpson was scratched from the lineup and replaced by Victor Mesa Jr. The reason for his sitting out Friday's contest was reported as a finger injury.

The Rays will look to make it ten games in a row as they will take on the Astros once again on the road in a July 4th matchup. Drew Rasmussen (7-4, 2.45 ERA) will get his first start since being named the American League Pitcher of the Month for June. He will face Hunter Brown (1-0, 1.78 ERA). First pitch is scheduled for 7:10 pm EST.
