Just days before the 2026 MLB Draft, Raynham resident, former Bishop Feehan ace and projected early-round pick Brody Bumila looks to have suffered an unfortunate setback.

On Monday, July 6, ESPN's Kiley McDaniel reported via X that the 2025-26 MaxPreps Male National Athlete of the Year and 2025-26 Gatorade Massachusetts Baseball Player of the Year had shared an MRI with MLB teams that showed he had a UCL injury in his left throwing arm, the same arm Bumila had internal brace surgery on to repair in 2024.

If Bumila were to require surgery on the injury, whether another internal brace or Tommy John, it could see the 6-foot-9 southpaw and University of Texas commit sidelined for over a year, something teams will consider in terms of drafting him.

Bumila is coming off an incredibly impressive senior season both on the mound and the basketball court. This past winter, he averaged a double-double of 30.6 points and 15.2 rebounds per game in the regular season. During the playoffs, he upped the ante, averaging 40.8 points and 20.8 rebounds per game as he helped lead the Shamrocks to their first-ever MIAA Division 1 boys basketball title.

On the mound, the flame throwing lefty made national headlines and attracted hordes of MLB scouts as he took to the mound for Feehan the first time since his sophomore year. While working on a pitch and inning limit, he went 5-0, giving up nine runs (seven earned) on eight hits and 14 walks while striking out 96 in 44⅓ innings of work, leading the Shamrocks to an appearance in the MIAA Division 1 final.

In his lone complete-game outing against Moses Brown (RI), Bumila broke a 60-year-old Feehan record by striking out 20 in a 7-1 no-hitter win on the Shamrocks’ senior night.

The 2026 MLB Draft is scheduled for Saturday, July 11, and Sunday, July 12, at the Pennsylvania Convention Center in Philadelphia. The draft is scheduled to start at 1 p.m. on Saturday, with the first 10 picks being broadcast live on NBC and Peacock. Picks 11-40 will air live on MLB Network, as well as MLB.com, MLB.tv and MLB+, while the latter three will also broadcast picks 41-135 to round out day one and then show all picks in rounds 5-20 starting at 11:30 a.m. on Sunday.
