They say offense sells tickets, and defense wins championships. The Baltimore Ravens are again managing a familiar May feeling fueled by expectations. NFL analysts are turning the pressure cooker on two-time MVP Lamar Jackson and company. The road to glory won't get any easier as the AFC will double as a gauntlet.

We know who the opponents in 2025 are, and soon, we'll know when those games will be played. Key pieces have been added to the roster, like free-agent offensive tackle Ronnie Stanley and Baltimore's brand-new 11-man NFL Draft class. Two of the young Ravens are already turning heads.

Two Baltimore rookies earn early mentions as potential NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year candidates.

Typically, teams drafting players in the first or second round are expecting the prospects added to contribute early. Baltimore added a couple of monsters in safety Malaki Starks (Georgia Bulldogs) and edge rusher Mike Green (Marshall Thundering Herd). They will be asked to help add punch to a Ravens defense that finished tenth overall in 2024 with a 324.2 yards-per-game average.

Both are hearing their names mentioned early. ESPN NFL insiders recently debated the most interesting topics of discussion stemming from the most recent NFL Draft. The new guys were given their flowers when the topic shifted to early picks for Defensive Rookie of the Year favorites.

Fantasy football writer Moody casts his vote for Mike Green. NFL analyst Field Yates casts his vote for Malaki Starks.

Moody on Green: "He landed in a great spot with the Ravens as he can be an immediate starter there. Green led the FBS with 17 sacks last season. His talent was shown in viral reps against new Commanders tackle Josh Conerly Jr. at the Senior Bowl."

Yates says the following about the first-rounder and former Georgia Bulldogs star: "Starks landed in an excellent spot to play alongside Kyle Hamilton and be put in positions that mesh with his skill set, which includes strong instincts, ball skills, and vision to play centerfield."

Malaki Starks is a 2022 College Football Playoff National Champion, a 2023 Consensus All-American, a 2024 First-Team All-American, and a two-time First-Team All-SEC honoree. Green finished his career at Marshall, named the 2024 Sun Belt Player of the Year and a First-Team All-American.
