I do think the Cardinals running game could be elite next year.

I had to rewatch these Conner highlights from 2023 to get me pumped up. Also should call them highlights for the OL as you could drive a truck through some of those holes. Man I'm excited to watch the Cardinals running game next season!

Cardinals Rushing Stats from last season:

#1 in 20+ yard runs with 23

#2 in 40+ yard runs with 5

#2 in Yard Per Carry at 5.0 YPC

#4 in Total Rushing Yards at 2365 yards
Best thing team has going for it for sure.

9 games without Murray at qb. Not to mention coaches didn’t even try to make him a primary target till midseason.

If he stays healthy he has a real good chance at being TE #1 in the NFL
He is already in the kelce/kittle group...then you look at their age....really good chance we have the top TE in the league within two years.

Good point! Not really relevant to the accuracy of whether he played outstanding for the vast majority of last season tho.

Of course, his last three games with Murray he averaged less than 40 YPG and less than 8 yards per reception.

Everything that happened while Murray was out was checkdown city. Dobbs to McBride was great for McBride, but is unlikely to repeat. He did look great though, when given a shot.

Naw. On a whole bunch of the Dobbs-McBride receptions, McBride was the primary target and in position as a result of the passing scheme. What happened was the D-coordinators realized that the TE was a primary target and made adjustments to their coverage. (I posted this video on a different thread but it bears repeating here)

A lot of carts being put before horses regarding McBride. He is in the Dalton Schultz tier of TEs right now. Which isn't a bad thing by the way.
Disagree. McBride’s best year already eclipses all of Dalton’s but one & that’s with most of the attention on McBride.

Yeah but most of the targets going McBride's way, also. Would Evan Engram or TJ Hockenson be a better comp from a high peak?

George Kittle has averaged 90 targets, 65.3 receptions, and almost 900 yards per season the past three years.

McBride had 106 targets, 81 receptions, and 825 yards last year. The more likely outcome is that he's a very good tight end, not that he one of the three best receiving TEs in the NFL. Doesn't mean the latter outcome isn't possible; just unlikely.

McBride is unlikely to see 106 targets again. Once Ertz's ghost was exorcised from Hardy Drive, he averaged 8.5 targets per game which would be 144 targets over a 17-game season. That's one fewer target than Ja'Marr Chase had last year.

Maybe you should be more clear in your statements then.

People are overinterpreting facts because it makes them sad and mad. I'm sorry pointing out that McBride was mid for the literal majority of the season makes you Mad Online and rude.

Why not mention the 106 targets for 81 catches and 800+ yards? Why not the highest yards per route of all tight ends in the NFL? Was it because he had the best pure passer since Marino throwing to him the first half of the year?

5 tight ends had over 120 targets last year. I can think of 10 off the top of my head where Dobbs missed him and just as many where he made a spectacular catch on a bad ball and had no chance to pick up yac. Thinking he can get another 15 catches and 200 yards in a full season is not unrealistic at all imo, especially with another real threat in MHJ on the field. I’m not saying he’s the next Gronk but I think your pessimism towards anything Cardinal related is skewing your judgement here.

No, Ingram and Hockenson would not be better comps. They’ve played 7 and 6 seasons and in McBride’s 2nd year, he bested their 1st 6 and 5 seasons. In their 2nd seasons, when they both had HOF quarterbacks throwing to them, he still had 20 more catches and more yards. Hockinson was supposed to be the next great TE and finally started looking like it last year; in year 6.

Ever wonder if, perhaps, other peoples’ reluctance to share in your relentless skepticism regarding the team makes you mad and sad?

And the corpse of Ertz blocking him from getting enough touches.

If the Cardinals had figured out early in the year what they had in McBride, I'm fairly confident he would have posted league best numbers in yards and catches.

Here's my list, and my ratings are as follows. Elite, Above Average, Average, and Below Average.
1. RB/Above Average
2. QB/Above Average
3. Safety/Above Average
4. TE/Above Average
5. OL/Above Average
6. ILB/Average
7. WR/ Below Average
8. DL/Below Average
9. CB/Below Average
10.OLB/Below Average

Specialists Above Average.

I'm not labeling anything as Elite at this point but there are clearly positions that could be Elite in the future

It will be fun watching this year! #7,8,9,10 could vastly improve as the season goes on.

Makes you really wonder what the front office was thinking, as Ertz was so obviously cooked, and our objective was to make 2023 an extended tryout year.
