ARLINGTON, Texas -- Anyone who worried the Texas Rangers' offensive success wouldn’t find its way back to Arlington with the team after a successful road trip can rest easy.

The Rangers exploded for 10 runs on a season-high 17 hits in a 10-4 series- and homestand-opening victory over the Detroit Tigers.

With the win, the Rangers improve to 45-43 on the season and have won seven of their last eight games.

It didn’t take long for the Rangers to get things started in this one as Elias Diaz laced a solo home run into the left-field seats to open the scoring in the second inning.

“Diaz has been insane,” Rangers manager Skip Schumaker said after the game. “What he’s provided not only behind the plate but on the offensive side has been so huge for us…”

Later in the second, Josh Jung worked a bases-loaded walk and Ezequiel Duran lifted a sacrifice fly to put Texas up 3-0.

In the fourth, it was Jung and Duran coming through once again as an RBI double and single, respectively, expanded the Rangers' lead to 5-0.

Texas starter Nathan Eovaldi ran into some trouble in the fifth after allowing just one base runner through four. The Tigers jumped on the Rangers' veteran right-hander with a pair of home runs to cut the lead to 5-3.

Eovaldi was still able to earn his ninth win of the season, tying him for the American League lead.

“I think body-wise, I’m starting to feel better,” Eovaldi said after the game. “Mechanically I’m starting to feel better and locked in…”

The Rangers would use the sixth and seventh to put the game away as Josh Smith came off the bench and delivered his first home run of the season to make it 6-3 in the sixth.

It was three RBI singles from Smith, Alejandro Osuna, and Nicky Lopez that put the icing on the cake in the seventh, making it 9-3.

Evan Carter also came through with a home run in the eighth for the Rangers' 10th and final run of the night.

“I can’t say enough about our hitting coaches putting together some really good game plans offensively,” Schumaker said. “One time, two times, three times through the order and thinking about different ways to attack some really good starters.

“These guys put together some really good at-bats… the bottom of the order these last fifteen games has done more than enough to get back to the top of the order.”
