Rams Star Matthew Stafford Ranks Behind 4 QBs on PFN’s Top 100 After MVP-Winning Season

Matthew Stafford may never play as well as he did last season again. After all, here’s a quarterback who had played 16 seasons, then suddenly turned in his best one in Year 17.

Now 38 years old, there’s a great amount of skepticism about whether he can maintain that elite form. Last year he won the NFL’s MVP award for the first time in his storied career, leading the league in passing yards and touchdowns.

Despite an incredible performance, Stafford still ranked behind several other QBs on Pro Football Network’s list of top 100 players for 2026.

Is Matthew Stafford the NFL’s Fifth-Best QB?

Stafford led the Rams to 12 wins last season, tying for his career-high. The only other time he racked up 12 wins in the regular season came in his first year with the Los Angeles Rams in 2021, when the team won Super Bowl LVI.

While some might say Stafford had a better overall year in the Rams’ Super Bowl year, especially when you count his playoff performance, others would say a few fellow NFL QBs outperformed him in 2025 and could do so again in 2026.

“His ability to accumulate numbers was never a doubt while in Detroit, but he didn’t know how he’d look in a winning environment,” Kyle Soppe wrote.

“Box checked. Stafford has led three straight double digit win seasons for a Rams team that enters 2026 as the odds on Super Bowl favorite. If you include the playoffs, he and Mahomes are the only active QBs to throw 50 TD passes in a season.”

While Stafford did rank high, further analysis from PFN suggests that he could be even higher on the list, had he performed better in previous years.

“Had the reigning MVP graded better in 2023 and 2024, there’s no telling how high Matthew Stafford would be ranked. He finished No. 15 and No. 19 in those years, respectively, but shot all the way up to No. 2 after his stellar 2025 campaign. Few players can say they had the best year of their career in their 17th year in the NFL.”

Stafford isn’t expected to suddenly drop off in performance as he heads into a new season. The Rams still have an excellent supporting cast; some might even say it’s their best yet.

With Puka Nacua, Davante Adams, a strong group of tight ends, plus a Pro Bowl running back in Kyren Williams, the sky is the limit for the Rams’ offense in 2026. Whether it leads to a better ranking for Stafford remains to be seen.
