The Los Angeles Rams felt comfortable enough to forego a first-round selection on Thursday to pick up an extra first-rounder in the 2026 NFL Draft.
When it was finally time to pick at No. 46 overall, they didn't hesitate running in the card for Oregon tight end Terrance Ferguson.
Soon after hanging up the phone with the his newest offensive weapon, coach Sean McVay couldn't help but smile while congratulating everyone else in the draft room.
"The 6-foot-5, 247-pound Ferguson concluded his college career as the Ducks' program record-holder for career receptions (134) and receiving touchdowns (16) leader for his position," wrote Rams senior staff writer Stu Jackson. "Starting in 11 of 12 games played, he had 43 receptions for 591 yards and three touchdowns for Oregon in 2024."
The Rams are hoping Ferguson can be an immediate difference-maker in a tight end room that already includes veterans Tyler Higbee, Colby Parkinson and Davis Allen.
Ferguson gives 37-year-old quarterback Matthew Stafford another explosive weapon over the middle of the field. With receivers Puka Nacua and Davante Adams, teams will have to pick their poison when it comes to defending all three targets.
McVay didn't hide his desire for a tight end, according to The Athletic's Jourdan Rodrigue. There might not be a better coach in the league when it comes to getting the most out of an athletic tight end like Ferguson, who by all accounts is a better pass-catcher than blocker. Still, he'll be asked to do both while preparing to eventually take over for the 32-year-old Higbee.

Rams really wanted to go skill player with their first pick, and Sean McVay has been jonesing for a TE. He'll join a room with Tyler Higbee (last year of his contract), Colby Parkinson and Davis Allen.
