Okay so this popped up on my Disney + as new.

Wow. Holy crap. This is SO dark and so hard R for violence it is just hard to describe. At times I was so uncomfortable with the PTSD, self harm, and just frankly casual inhumanity I almost got out.

John Bernthal just carries this with heartbreaking lonliness, self loathing, and anger.

It's only 50 minutes and I wanted another hour minimum. I really can't believe they are going to drop this version of Frank Castle into Spiderman

John Bernthals Punisher is just so unwatchable for me. It’s definitely not the Punisher from the books. His version is so sulky it’s comical

I can’t count how many times let’s out a crying UUUUUHHHHGGGGGG. He just does it over and over.

Honestly I think what does it for me... other than absolutely hating Bernthal in Walking Dead but being hapy to see him make use of his solid acting skills... what does it for me is identity... I read Punisher comics as a kid...stopped maybe around 1980 I guess...it wasnt a favorite, just one I read when it happened to come around...
But then they started making movies... and they never put anything into them... writing was cheesy....effects sketchy,...acting excessively poor,..something... every time.
off the top of my head... Dolph Lundgren was the best, got the best budget for effects... but he sukt...I think maybe they were in the middle of his alcohol issues or something...and the writing was sketchy at best..
then..

. Thomas Jane is it?? Never can remember that guys name... his acting is fine, better than Dolph... but thats about it...writing wasnt "turrible" per say;;;effects and choreography were just fine.
fine.
Meh....
Blah......
Dull,.....
BO-ringggg.....
A totally non remarkable edition of the punisher....and Frank Castle... The only thing less memorable than Thomas Janes edition of the Punisher...is Ray Stevensons version of the Punisher.... did you know Ray Stevenson played the Punisher??
So I am stuck with the current edition. Its not prime. But it is in every way the best collaboration/accumulation of acting/writing/effects/editing that Hollywood has ever put together to create a version of The Punisher.

Much like Tom Cruise playing Jack Reacher.

You really want the guy to radiate an inherent aura of menace. But, this is the best we got.
so I watch.

I couldn't disagree more with some of you. I love this Punisher. Not cheesy, more grounded and bad A.
