The death of NASCAR great Kyle Busch left the racing community stunned and devastated on Thursday.

Busch was hospitalized on Wednesday after becoming unresponsive and died Thursday, hours after his family released a statement saying he was hospitalized with a "severe illness" and would miss the Coca-Cola 600.

Tributes poured in for Busch on Thursday night, and many took note of some poignant words he shared in what would be his final racing interview after winning the NASCAR Truck Series race at Dover six days before his death.

It's hard to believe that Busch won a Truck Series race just six days before his death, but his words after the victory took on new meaning as the racing community mourned his death on Thursday.

Asked why wins "never get old" after winning the NASCAR Truck Series race at Dover, Busch responded, "Because you never know when the last one is."

Busch explained that he knew "all too well" that you never know when a win will be your last because of the "Cup stuff," referring to the fact he hadn't won a NASCAR Cup Series race in more than three years.

Busch also knew winning all too well, as he won 63 Cup Series races and 69 Truck Series races, the latter of which is a record.

Asked later the same night what his career goal was in terms of total wins, Busch said he once aimed for Dale Earnhardt's mark of 76 in the Cup Series but now just wanted to appreciate the moment without setting goals. "Take whatever you can get, man. You never know when the last one's going to be, so cherish them all. Trust me," Busch told reporters.

No one could have imagined that it would not only be the last time Busch won, but the last time he raced competitively at all. Busch participated in the NASCAR All-Star Race, which doesn't count toward the Cup Series standings, just two days later, and he was preparing for the Coca-Cola 600 when he was hospitalized on Wednesday.

In his last Instagram post three days before his death, Busch celebrated his son Brexton's birthday.

"Happy Birthday Brexton!!! Your mom & I are so proud of who you’re turning out to be! You’re the best kid on & off the track, you amaze us every day," the caption reads. "Keep doing what you’re doing and there is no limit to what you’ll accomplish! Love you buddy!"

The heartbreaking post is now flooded with comments paying tribute to the late NASCAR driver, who died unexpectedly Thursday after experiencing a medical emergency Wednesday night.
