One of the pleasant surprises from Los Angeles Rams training camp is the emergence of rookie receiver CJ Daniels. Daniels, a sixth-round selection from the University of Miami, helped the Hurricanes reach the National Championship game and re-establish national prominence for the football program.
It appears his playmaking ability is translating into the NFL as he's been a noted standout performer through the team's non-padded practices. His teammate and league-leading pass catcher, Puka Nacua, was asked about Daniels, diving into the reasons why he is made for the moment.
“I think there's a confidence when he goes out there in the football field of his skill set," stated Nacua. “I feel like everybody in our receiver room, we're blessed to have Davante Adams and to be able to ask questions because of the amount of experience that he's been able to have throughout this NFL career. He's the first one to ask questions, similar to Ty Simpson.
"You're getting reps so there's obviously opportunities for us to coach, but to ask questions when it's not his rep. I think that's something that CJ has gone out of his way to make sure that he's got to have an understanding of what we're thinking and what obviously is that the game plan that we have in our offensive plays.”
Daniels’ and Simpson's constant curiosity about the game of football, and their relentless pursuits as professionals, have helped accelerate their onboarding process. Both players have a long way to go until they're ready to take the reins of the Rams offense, but for fans, it's nice to know the future is in the hands of players who take their craft seriously.
On the other hand, with teachers like Nacua and Adams showing Daniels the way, it's understandable why the franchise has the draft success that it does.
