In parallel with its market moves to attack players, Paris Saint-Germain has not forgotten to focus on signing a versatile defender. Luis Enrique is hoping for a defender capable of playing in the middle as well as on the right flank.
Even though PSG is making headlines in the transfer market at the moment, it is mainly because of various issues involving its attack.
After abandoning the Yan Diomandé case given RB Leipzig’s demands deemed excessive, the back-to-back Champions League winner must also manage a very complex Bradley Barcola case, with the latter refusing to extend his contract.
But the Paris management is not working exclusively on the shape of its attack. As L’Equipe indicates, Luis Campos and Luis Enrique still intend to find the ideal defender to fill certain gaps in this area.
Indeed, as the French outlet reveals, PSG still hopes to strengthen its back line during this summer transfer window. Many weeks have passed, and the trend has not changed: Luis Enrique wants to be able to count on the signing of a versatile right-footed defender.
Luis Campos has drawn up a long list of central defenders capable of playing on the right flank to enable rotation with Achraf Hakimi and relieve Warren Zaïre-Emery of his role as a luxury joker in this position.
While waiting for the arrival of a new player, Luis Enrique will have to rely on the Paris reserves for the summer preparation, with David Boly, who precisely has the hoped-for profile, and Dimitri Lucea.
In any case, the signing of a new defender would complete a department already strengthened by the arrival of Lucas Digne, whose official announcement should not be long in coming, thereby ensuring rotation on the left flank alongside Nuno Mendes.
Elsewhere, according to reports, Liverpool has submitted a €120 million offer to sign Paris Saint-Germain winger Bradley Barcola.
The future of Barcola, 23, has once again become a topic of discussion because, according to reports, the Frenchman has rejected the Parisian club’s latest contract extension offer.
As if that were not enough, journalist Achille Ash now reports that Premier League club Liverpool has submitted an offer worth €105 million guaranteed plus €15 million in bonuses for the France international.
According to the same report, the offer is currently under review by the Paris Saint-Germain board. With that, the talented winger’s potential departure from the Parisian club appears increasingly likely. Ash says Liverpool’s offer is close to PSG’s asking price, but negotiations remain ongoing, according to his report.
