The NBA‘s Eastern Conference shakes up even more. Another blockbuster trade has taken place, as ESPN’s Shams Charania reports that Jaylen Brown has been traded to the Philadelphia 76ers.
This is another seismic move that was bound to happen at some point, but the landing spot is not what anyone saw coming. Brown now moves to a conference rival of the Celtics, and the team that sent him home in the first round.

The full trade is as follows. The Philadelphia 76ers receive Jaylen Brown. The Boston Celtics receive Paul George, two first-round picks, and two second-round picks.
No getting around it, this is an underwhelming return for the Celtics. Paul George is coming off a season where he played just 37 games and is also 36 years old. The Celtics were originally shopping Brown for Giannis Antetokounmpo, who is a top seven player in the world.
This is a breakthrough type of deal for Philadelphia. After making the second round of the playoffs last year, the 76ers add a former NBA Finals MVP who provides greater ability on both sides of the ball.

PG: Tyrese Maxey
SG: VJ Edgecombe
SF: Jaylen Brown
PF: Dean Wade
C: Joel Embiid
This lineup has everything: athleticism with Brown and Edgecombe, an elite scoring guard in Maxey, and a dominant offensive center in Embiid. Pressure now rises again on Embiid to stay healthy. This also gives the 76ers another alpha scoring threat if he goes down, though.
The 76ers also signed Dean Wade in free agency, who gives Philadelphia size and a floor spacer on offense. Everyone in this starting lineup can shoot, including Edgecombe, who didn’t shoot the lights out from three but was streaky and still shot 35%.
The East has already seen moves like Kawhi Leonard to the Raptors and Giannis Antetokounmpo to the Heat. Philadelphia joins the party of making splash moves and is right in the mix with the Knicks and Raptors at the top of the conference.
