The Way We Hear It...

The Cardinals are hoping each of their first three draft picks this season (in order, WR Larry Fitzgerald, OLB Karlos Dansby and DT Darnell Dockett) can make an instant impact. While Fitzgerald has made an excellent early impression to nobody’s surprise, we hear the most impressive of the three so far probably has been Dockett, who some feel already has a good shot at becoming the starting “under” tackle ahead of Kenny King and former first-round pick Wendell Bryant. Dockett, who played the same position at Florida State, has looked like a natural in the early going and has displayed tremendous quickness. Dansby, meanwhile, has been hard to judge because of a groin injury he suffered in the team’s first minicamp.

• Dennis Green on Cardinals RB Marcel Shipp, who failed to score a single TD last season: “I’ll be a big mouth. I think he’ll score at least seven times this year. I think with the kind of guys we have pushing up front, he’s going to be a 1,000-yarder (rushing), plus seven touchdowns.”
• Keep an eye on Cardinals third-year RB Josh Scobey, who definitely figures to be the team’s No. 2 back next season and could push Emmitt Smith for the backup RB spot before the 2004 campaign is over. New head coach Dennis Green really likes Scobey’s tools.

I think I read it in ESPN but in one of the major sports publications there was a short article on McCown. It basically said Dennis Green made the right call with McCown and he should turn out to be a real fine QB and supprise a lot of people. Also noted with the Cards receiving corps he should be double tough. This article relieved about 10% of my anxiety over the QB situation but it is a start.
