As we gear up for the 2026 football season, Aggies Wire is breaking down nearly every player on the Texas A&M roster. Throughout the preseason, each profile will highlight a player’s background, high school recruiting rankings, and projected role under head coach Mike Elko.
QB2 is often the most popular player on any team partly because fans assume the backup could spark the offense when QB1 struggles, and partly because limited garbage‑time flashes can create a false sense of readiness. With Marcel Reed firmly entrenched as the starter, the battle for the No. 2 spot becomes one of the more intriguing storylines of the preseason.
Right now, redshirt freshman Brady Hart holds the edge. He enrolled a year early, technically making him a member of the 2026 class, and that head start matters. He’s already appeared in a few games and was previously locked in a semi‑competition with Miles O’Neill, who ultimately transferred for a better opportunity.
Still, Elko has made it clear the competition is real. If any of the other four backups show meaningful improvement, the depth chart behind Reed could shift as camp unfolds.
The former four‑star prospect powered the Tigers to a dominant 25–4 record across two seasons, capturing back‑to‑back FHSAA Class 2A state championships. He completed 553 of 827 passes for 8,119 yards (66.9%) with 81 touchdowns against just 19 interceptions, while adding 168 rushing yards and two scores on 97 attempts. A reclassified athlete, he spent only three years in high school.
There’s no real debate at quarterback; Marcel Reed is firmly QB1. The intrigue comes behind him, where the battle for QB2 should stretch deep into the season. Coach Elko says it’s Brady Hart’s job to lose, though competition will stay open. Hart holds the early edge thanks to more time on campus, live game reps, and roughly 20 pounds of added muscle since arriving.
