As we gear up for the 2026 football season, Aggies Wire is breaking down every player on the Texas A&M roster. Throughout the preseason, each profile will highlight a player’s background, recruiting rankings out of high school, and projected role under head coach Mike Elko.
Texas A&M head coach Mike Elko inherited a depleted secondary when he arrived in College Station, a unit short on both athleticism and depth. The Aggies needed immediate contributors to stabilize the back end of the defense, and one player who quickly rose to the top was transfer safety Marcus Ratcliffe, who went on to start 35 of 38 games since arriving on campus.

Ratcliffe is firmly expected to open the season as one of Texas A&M’s starting safeties. His versatility gives the Aggies flexibility across the secondary, allowing him to drop into coverage, rotate over the top, or step downhill to defend the run. The safety room remains one of Mike Elko’s strongest position groups entering year three, and Ratcliffe’s growth and adaptability are a major reason the unit has reached that level.
