Caston sophomore Parker Zimpleman had two home runs and nine RBIs in the Comets’ 19-7 win over West Central in baseball Monday in Fulton. Zimpleman went 3-for-4 and added a double and three runs scored, directly accounting for 12 runs in the victory.

Tucker Woolever went 3-for-4 with a double and RBI for Caston (1-1), which bounced back from 6-5 loss in extra innings to Rochester on Friday. Brodie Howard had a triple, single and RBI. Gavin Mollenkopf went 1-for-1 with a double and three runs scored. Eli Holloway had a single and three RBIs. Carson Harness added a double and Lucius Edson added a single.

Howard drew the start and was credited with the win, allowing two runs (none earned) on three hits and four walks, striking out four in three innings. London Herd allowed five runs on three hits and six walks in one inning, striking out two. Zimpleman pitched a scoreless inning of relief.

LOGAN 9, LAFAYETTE JEFF 3

Joshua Middleton pitched six strong innings and Logansport won its season opener at Lafayette Jeff (2-1) in a game that was moved up a day due to the weather forecast.

Middleton allowed three runs (two earned) on eight hits. Kuper Jones pitched a perfect seventh with one strikeout.

Logansport coach Dan Frye said in his postgame comments to WSAL that all of Lafayette Jeff’s runs scored on the night were wind-aided.

Blake Pearson led the Berries at the plate, going 3-for-4 with two doubles, three RBIs and two runs scored. Taylor Albright had two hits, two RBIs and two runs scored. Braylon Ritchie had two hits and two RBIs. Grady Alexander had a double and RBI.

Logan hosts Manchester on Wednesday for its home opener.

WINAMAC 14, ARGOS 0

Winamac junior Brooke Rausch pitched a five-inning no-hitter in a win at Argos. She walked one and struck out 10.

Brody Goodman, Maggie Keller and Corinne Ulerick had three hits apiece to lead the Winamac offense. Grace Roth and Makayla Werner each had two hits.

Winamac (2-0, 1-0 HNAC) recorded a 14-2 win over visiting Carroll last Friday. Rausch and Adrianna Hall combined for the win. Werner led the offense with three hits. Roth and Ulerick had two hits apiece.
