The LSU Tigers welcomed in a new coaching staff this offseason, which should bring its own traditions with it. At least one previous Tigers' tradition will remain as well, as it has for the past couple of coaches.
Each year LSU hands out two very important numbers that don't exactly signify the team captains, but they mean they are crucial to the program and are usually saved for players who make large impacts on the program.
Here is a prediction as to who will wear the Nos. 7 and 18 for the Tigers this season:
The No. 7 jersey is, of course, handed out to who is essentially viewed ats the most impactful player on the field. Patrick Peterson, Leonard Fournette and Tyrann Mathieu just scratch the surface of LSU greats who have donned the number.
Few better fit that description that Green. This is someone with immense talent that this coaching staff is eager to use. He was a priority to make sure that they brought back, and is expected to have a huge year. The tight end certainly has the "it" factor that the number requires.
The Tigers might be the only school with a six-foot-seven tight end with as much receiving upside as Green has. He should be able to feast in this Lane Kiffin offense, as he already showed flashes of greatness in last year's abysmal offense.
With Green's speed and size combination, he is an absolute nightmare for defenders, as sometimes they just drag him down and take the penalty rather than give up a score or big catch to him.
Weeks is another player who could be handed the other jersey and be accepted. He had 125 tackles with 10 TFLs in his last healthy season. The expectations are high for him on the field. There might not be anyone better equipped for the No. 18 jersey, though.
He'll be a leader of the defense on and off the field. This'll be his fourth year at LSU, he came back despite being a likely NFL draft pick, has battled adversity, has played with both of his brothers at the school and is even dating the coach's daughter (a less serious reason, but too fun of a story not to mention)! Weeks would be a perfect No. 18 candidate, which is why this would probably be the top duo.
