With training camp just around the corner, here’s our prediction for who will wear the coveted “C” patch for the Detroit Lions during the 2026 season.

Jared Goff remains the unquestioned leader of Detroit’s offense and one of the most respected veterans in the building. Since arriving in Detroit, Goff has transformed both his career and the trajectory of the franchise, helping lead the Lions from rebuilding afterthought to legitimate contender.
Whether it’s his preparation, consistency, or ability to command the huddle, Goff has earned the trust of teammates and coaches alike. As long as he’s under center, he’ll almost certainly continue serving as one of Detroit’s team captains.
Few players better represent the Lions’ identity than Penei Sewell.
He’s physical, relentless, selfless, and plays with the edge Dan Campbell loves. Already regarded as one of the NFL’s premier offensive tackles, Sewell has also emerged as one of the emotional leaders of the offense.
His passion is contagious, and it’s impossible to watch him celebrate a big play without understanding why teammates gravitate toward him.
Expect Sewell to once again be voted a captain.
If there’s one player who perfectly represents Detroit’s work ethic, it’s Amon-Ra St. Brown.
The All-Pro receiver has built his career through relentless preparation and an unmatched competitive drive. Whether it’s the offseason, practice, or Sunday afternoons, St. Brown approaches every rep with the same intensity.
His leadership extends well beyond his production on the field, making him an easy choice to remain among the team’s captains.

Aidan Hutchinson has become everything the Lions hoped he would be when they selected him with the No. 2 overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft.
He’s one of the league’s premier pass rushers, but perhaps even more importantly, he’s become one of the faces of the franchise. His relentless motor, infectious energy, and commitment to the organization make him one of the easiest captain selections on the roster.
This is where the biggest change comes.
With veteran linebacker Alex Anzalone departing in free agency to join the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, someone has to step into a larger leadership role on defense.
That player is Jack Campbell.
After earning All-Pro honors during the 2025 season, Campbell has firmly established himself as the centerpiece of Detroit’s linebacker corps. More importantly, teammates consistently praise his preparation, communication, and professionalism.
He has grown into one of the defense’s unquestioned leaders, making him the logical choice to replace Anzalone as a team captain.

Punters rarely serve as NFL team captains.
Then again, Jack Fox isn’t your typical punter.
Fox has been one of the NFL’s best specialists for years, consistently flipping field position with one of the strongest legs in football. His production alone makes him invaluable, but it’s his leadership inside the locker room that could earn him a captain’s patch.
By all accounts, Fox is one of the most respected veterans on the roster. He brings professionalism every day, mentors younger players, and has become a quiet but steady voice within the team.
With Grant Stuard leaving in free agency for the Los Angeles Rams, Detroit loses one of its special teams leaders. Fox is the perfect candidate to fill that void.
It may be uncommon for a punter to be voted a captain, but if there were ever a player deserving of the honor, it’s Jack Fox.
One of the reasons the Lions have become one of the NFL’s most respected organizations is because leadership isn’t concentrated in just one or two players.
It’s everywhere.
