Went with Love since as Stout said do not want a repeat of when they passed on Peterson. They do need to address the Oline in FA. Love is from my hometown. Rumors flying around St Louis are the chiefs are going to trade up for him if he goes past pick 5 and I do not want the chiefs to get him.

The main reason I'm so surprised about there being a huge push for Love here is I KNOW this board would have been melting down if we had traded a 3rd round pick for Breece Hall at the deadline last year.

We could have extended Breece for less money per year than Love is going to get on his rookie contract and people would have been shouting about what a terrible use of cap space and how a 3rd round pick is wasted on an elite talent like Hall when you can get a good RB in free agency.

I disagree.
But...even assuming you are correct. There is just something different about growing your own

The OL needs free agent, experienced linemen. They need to focus on beefing up the trenches before they draft Love or Simpson.

Would be ok IF we get two starter OL in free agency. Not sure if Willis hype to AZ is real or not. Solidify RT and a G spot, then a luxury pick at RB would be ok. Benson hasn’t proved a thing and Connor is old. Go defense in rd 2 or 3 pending pick at QB if they do so

Well they had to give Breece $14m on the franchise tag instead of $11m on the transition tag to get him to sign so I don't think that's true at all.

And giving a 3rd up for a guy about to hit FA that wants $15m a year would have been insane. And Love is 4 years younger, and better.

Breece's projected contract in free agency would have been 13.5 million per year. He hates the Jets and has been begging on social media for them to get rid of him, so the Jets are going to have to pay a premium to keep him. He's getting paid extra because its being done against his will.

Breece cost a 3rd round pick in a trade because they weren't ever going to let him hit free agency. They stated they wanted a high pick because they planned to sign him to a long term deal otherwise.

Breece and Love have very similar skillsets. Both are elite pass catchers, good have vision in between the tackles, and run in the 4.3's. Both regularly turn 5 yard runs into house calls. Love is an inch taller, Breece weighs 5 pounds more. Breece has already proven to be elite at the NFL level, despite the worst possible landing spot for counting stats.

So here are the scenarios.

Love: Costs 3rd OVERALL in the 2026 NFL draft and 12 million a year. If Love is everything he is hyped up to be, he will be the 5th best running back in the NFL next year. Love is 20 years old.

Breece: costs the 65th pick in the 2026 NFL Draft, would cost 13.5-14 million a year (maybe 15). If he plays like has his whole career he will be the 7th best running back in the NFL in 2026. He is 24 years old.

So, the difference is Breece costs 2-3 million more per year in a contract, is 4 years older but he costs pick 65 instead of pick 3.

I think you're underestimating how good Breece is if you think Love is expected to be a lot better than him. Love will be fantastic, but he isnt a CMC, Peterson, Bijan or Jeanty tier prospect. He's a Jahmyr Gibbs/Reggie Bush tier prospect, which is only a slight difference, but was also the same tier bucket Breece Hall was in coming out. Breece just happened to be drafted during a 4 year period where the NFL placed zero value on the running back position, so he fell to the 2nd round.

Ive read The Jets are going to Franchise Hall so wouldnt that cost more than the 3rd round pick not only draft picks but salary as well?

Last season at the trade deadline the Jets shopped Breece Hall for a 3rd round pick. We cant get him now.

Its all a hypothetical. I'm comparing how some of the same people who want to draft Love with the 3rd overall pick (which pays rookies 12 million a year) would have complained about using the 65th overall pick for Breece and paying him 14 million a year.

What was the difference if we had done that vs. drafting Love? 4 years of age, 2 million a year, and 62 draft spots for similar levels of play and an identical skillset.

Another example, remember Saquon being available for 14.75 million a year in 2024? He was a much better prospect than Love, but no one wanted to jump on that. 2.75 million more per year than the 3rd overall pick gets on a rookie contract, doesnt cost a draft pick, and no one was pushing for it or upset that it didnt happen.

Breece Hall has one thousand yard rushing season in 4 years. He's a very good RB, but he's not Love.
