Police seek teen, mom in killing of Missouri State player

LAS VEGAS (AP) — Police are looking for a teen suspect and his mother in the shooting of a Missouri State University football player who witnesses say tried to stop a fight involving his sister and others in Las Vegas over the weekend.

She is believed to have driven her son from the scene before police arrived.

Teen and mom under arrest in Missouri State player's death

LAS VEGAS (AP) — Police say a teenager and his mother are under arrest in the death of a Missouri State University football player who tried to stop a fight involving his sister in Las Vegas.

Police say the 17-year-old suspect was booked into juvenile detention Tuesday on suspicion of murder with a deadly weapon in the Saturday shooting that killed 18-year-old Richard J. Nelson.

Teen due in Las Vegas court in Missouri State player slaying
LAS VEGAS (AP) — A 17-year-old accused of shooting and killing a Missouri State University football player during a fight involving their sisters in Las Vegas has been charged as an adult with murder.

Richard Allan Newsome Jr. stood in shackles and wasn't asked during a brief court hearing Friday to enter a plea in the killing last weekend of 18-year-old Richard J. Nelson.

A judge scheduled a Feb. 6 preliminary hearing of evidence in the case.
