Pittsburg Girls Basketball Tops Willard in Bill Hanson Memorial Game Opener

PITTSBURG, KS. — Taking a trip over to Pittsburg high school, the hosts the Purple Dragons girls team played against the Willard Lady Tigers in round one of the 2026 Bill Hanson Memorial tournament.

McKenzie English was ontonight, rebounding on both ends of the court and scoring off second chances to help the Purple Dragons win!

A slow start for both squads, but the Lady Dragons struck first with the layup on the second chance effort by McKenzie English.

Early in the game, Willard responded quickly on offense, tieing up the game several times, but Pittsburg rebounded well and capitalized on several second chances throughout the game.

The Lady Tigers called a time out to try and slow down the Lady Dragons, but the hosts came out even stronger after the break.

In a back-and-forth, close matchup the hosts edge out Willard, winning 66-64.
