Pitcher Red Sox Traded Away Impresses In Latest Outing After Being Moved Into Rotation originally appeared on NESN. Add NESN as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
The Boston Red Sox traded away Shane Drohan in the offseason, and he has recently joined the Milwaukee Brewers' rotation.
Drohan made his MLB debut against the Red Sox as a starter in April. However, he struggled and was sent back to Triple-A. He was eventually recalled and started coming out of the bullpen. He impressed in that role, often going multiple innings and helping the Brewers win games.
However, his last two outings have been as a starter. Due to the Brewers' schedule, injuries and other starters struggling, Drohan has gotten another opportunity to start. His last start, on Sunday, was a quality start against the Colorado Rockies at Coors Field. He went 6 1/3 innings and allowed three earned runs.
He posted a good line, but it was still misleading. Two of the runs he gave up were a result of a popup that both Brice Turang and Andrew Vaughn did not see, and a fly ball that Garrett Mitchell misplayed.
Drohan has a 3.11 ERA on the season, but in his last two starts, he has gone 10 1/3 innings and has allowed five runs. With Brandon Woodruff and Quinn Priester injured, Drohan has been an important player for the Brewers. Brandon Sproat has struggled, and it's possible that when the Brewers get back to their normal five-man rotation, Drohan takes his spot.
