Pistons losing Tobias Harris is very real originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
Tobias Harris was a key piece of the Eastern Conference's No. 1 seed during the 2025-26 NBA season.
He may not play for the Detroit Pistons going forward, though.
Harris is an unrestricted free agent, and it's not a guarantee the Pistons bring him back.
He's 33 years old, but he's coming off a season in which he averaged 18.1 points and 7.2 rebounds in the playoffs.

Now, Harris is shopping himself around.
"Harris will be visiting with five teams at the start of free agency, according to a league source who spoke on condition of anonymity to describe ongoing negotiations," The Athletic wrote in a new article on Tuesday night. "(It’s not clear whether the meetings are virtual, phone or in person, or which teams are in play). At minimum, that means the prospect of Detroit losing Harris is somewhat real."
The Pistons are already looking at a potential loss of Jalen Duren after reports that contract negotiations with the center aren't going well.
"In turn, the Pistons suddenly find themselves somewhat in danger of taking a step backward this summer," The Athletic writes.

Harris might be a tough signing for someone, given his age -- what kind of length and salary do you really give him?
But at the end of the day, his shooting and offensive game makes him a valuable piece somewhere. It just might not be in Detroit.
