The Green Bay Packers took a wide receiver in the first round for the first time in over 20 years on Thursday night, but Matthew Golden was still a classic first-rounder for Brian Gutekunst given his elite speed trait.
Even into the second round, the Packers still prefer top athletes, making it a good bet Gutekunst will take a few more elite athletes at need positions on Friday night.
Who could be legitimate targets in Rounds 2 and 3?
The staff at Packers Wire picked our five best fits for the Packers on Day 2 of the 2025 NFL draft:
Another Longhorn could happen for the Packers on Day 2. Collins has the big body type the Packers are lacking after losing TJ Slaton, and Collins is probably more versatile and has more upside as a rusher than Slaton coming out of Florida. JTT is a classic box checker for the Packers at edge rusher. Farmer isn't as good against the run as Collins but could offer more pass-rushing upside and has three-tech/nose tackle potential. The Packers almost certainly like Jackson, a big, athletic edge who checks all the size/movement boxes. Thomas is still only 20 years old, has terrific length and could be a good fit in Jeff Hafley's coverage scheme.
After adding an electrifying wide receiver on Day 1, I have a feeling Day 2 will be all about the defense. Green Bay needs to strengthen the defensive line and add to the cornerback room, and some really good fits are still available. Leading off, Tuimoloau is one of the most well-rounded edge rushers in this year's class and is easily a top-50 player. Alexander and Burch have likable traits and could be future starters. Meanwhile, Revel is a lengthy cover corner with a high ceiling, while Parrish gives off Jaire Alexander vibes.
After taking a wide receiver in the first round, Brian Gutekunst could use Day 2 to invest in the trenches or add a player like Nohl Williams to the cornerback room. There are still plenty of talented edge rushers and defensive tackles on the board. Maybe the Packers make a move up to get Jackson or stick at 54 and add a defensive tackle like Sanders or Darius Alexander. Shemar Turner, the defensive tackle out of Texas A&M is another name to watch.
The Packers are likely to turn their attention to defense on night two, with cornerback and defensive line in focus. Sanders is a versatile, athletic defensive lineman and my most confident prediction. It feels like Green Bay wants and needs to add a corner tonight, but whether due to injury concerns or athletic flaws, there is no perfect fit. Thomas lacks top end speed, but is a big, smooth corner who is only 20 years old, and might be the best bet over Porter, who is more athlete than football player and is 24. Burch and Jackson are strong EDGE options, with the former having visited with Green Bay pre-draft and having the flexibility to kick inside.
