Here are the scores and recaps for the first round of the PIAA Baseball Championships that started Monday, June 1. Nine Bucks County area schools played and seven advanced to the quarterfinals.

PIAA Baseball Championships​

Class 6A


First round

(1-1) Pennsbury 6, (3-4) Ephrata 0: Senior Carlton Crane paced the Falcons with two hits, including a double, and junior Brendan Zuckerman and senior Nolan Kolanko each had doubles and RBIs. Junior Henry Garlits also contributed a hit and RBI. Pennsbury senior ace Keller Bradley allowed three hits and an unearned run in six innings, walking three and striking out nine. Junior Owen Hawkes handled the seventh, getting three strikeouts.

(1-4) Neshaminy 4, (11-1) William Allen 2:Neshaminy scored twice in the third and fourth innings to outlast Allen at DeSales University. Senior pitcher Matt Gryn went the distance, allowing three hits, one walk and striking out two. Senior Mike Sassano had two hits and an RBI for Neshaminy, while senior Noah Wallace and Gryn added one apiece. Neshaminy, which played error-free ball, was also aided by Allen's five errors

(12-1) La Salle11, (1-3) Pennridge 0 (5 innings): The host Explorers broke the game open with a 10-run fourth inning. Senior designated hitter Matt Wambold (two doubles) had a bases-clearing double in the fourth, with senior outfielder Caden Schmidt contributing a two-run double and RBI single, senior catcher Luke Borgmann added a two-run single and sophomore outfielder Michael O'Connor had an RBI single. Senior pitcher Cooper Weiss went the distance for La Salle, allowing two hits – a line-drive single to Pennridge senior designated hitter Ascher Hamburg and a bunt single to senior third baseman Brayden Robinson.

The Rams, who won the SOL Colonial with a 13-2 regular season record, had last made it to states in 2016 as the District One 4A champ.

Quarterfinals: Thursday, June 4

(1-1) Pennsbury vs. (2-1) Hazleton
: The Falcons won the District One title for the first time since 2017, when they went on to take the state championship in the first year with six PIAA classifications. Pennsbury, which secured the 2026 SOL Patriot title with a 13-2 divisional record, scored 42 runs (10.5 average) in four district wins, reaching double figures three times. ... Hazleton (18-4) topped visiting Hempfield 4-1 in its state opener.

(12-1) La Salle vs. (1-4) Neshaminy: Neshaminy, which made it to states for the third straight season, finished second in the SOL Patriot with a 12-3 mark. Neshaminy won two games at states a year ago as the fourth seed before falling to North Penn 1-0 in the semifinals. The Explorers earned the District 12 championship by defeating Central of the Public League 10-0 in six innings. La Salle, which went 11-1 during the Catholic League regular season, outlasted Conwell-Egan 7-6 for the PCL title.

Class 4A​


First round

(3-3) Boiling Springs 8, (12-1) Conwell-Egan 0
: The host Eagles dropped their state playoff opener without Philadelphia Catholic League MVP Brady Guzzie, who pulled his hamstring in the PCL championship game. Senior Jake McClain had the lone hit for CEC, which committed five errors and used five pitchers. ... Conwell-Egan earned the top district seed with a 10-2 record in the PCL regular season and by reaching the Catholic League championship game. The Eagles won the first state playoff game in school history two years ago.

(12-2) Archbishop Wood 2, (3-1) Northern Lebanon 1: The Vikings gave host Northern Lebanon (23-1) its first loss of the season. Senior Brady Sell was terrific on the mound, allowing just two hits, no earned runs, one walk and striking out 11, including the last batter looking to end the game. Senior Caden Vacca (two hits) had Wood's initial RBI on a first-inning fielder's choice and scored the winning run in the sixth. Senior AJ Hopkins (double) and junior Averell Walls each contributed two hits.

(1-1)Holy Ghost Prep12, (11-1) Northwestern Lehigh0 (5 innings): The host Firebirds rolled to victory with seniors Bam McNabb (four innings, one walk, five strikeouts) and Dalton Dydak (two strikeouts) combining for a five-inning no-hitter. Senior Matt Evans went 3 for 3 with two doubles and three RBIs, while senior Eddie Rosado contributed two hits, including a home run, and three RBIs for HGP, which scored seven runs in the third inning. Senior Tyler Bergkoetter had a double and three RBIs, while junior Preston Connors provided two hits and two RBIs.

Quarterfinals: Thursday, June 4

(1-1) Holy Ghost Prep vs. (2-1) Mid Valley
: The Firebirds won a pair of district playoff games to earn their second trip to states in three years. HGP secured the 2024 state title led by a stellar contingent of sophomores that are now seniors. ... Mid-Valley (19-5) downed East Pennsboro 7-6 with three seventh-inning runs in the opening round.

(12-2) Archbishop Wood vs. (6-1) Bellefonte: The Vikings ended up with a 9-3 PCL record and advanced to the PCL semifinals. Wood won two games at states in 2023 before losing to Dallas in the semifinals. ... Bellefonte (18-4) defeated Elizabeth Forward 11-1 in five innings in the first round.

First round

(1-1) Faith Christian 15,(12-1) Masterman 0 (3 innings)
: The two-time defending state champion Lions were dominant, led by home runs from senior Brandon Labs and junior Hunter Herr, who provided three RBIs apiece. Sophomore Logan Labs contributed a bases-clearing triple, double and four RBIs. Junior Jagger Verbit scored three runs and had a triple, with junior Maddox Bauz adding two RBIs. Junior Justin Murray (two innings, two strikeouts) and freshman Ethan Snyder (one inning, three strikeouts) combined on a three-inning no-hitter.

Second round: Thursday, June 4

(1-1) Faith Christian vs. (3-1)Halifax:
The two-time defending state champion Lions went 11-1 in the BAL regular season. ... Halifax (22-1) topped South Williamsport 7-6 in the first round.

Class A​


First round

(1-1) Dock Mennonite 7, (3-1) York Christian 4
: Junior Ethan Kratz had three hits, including a triple, and freshman Mason Bicht contributed a double among his two hits and two RBIs for the visiting Pioneers, who scored three runs in the seventh inning to break a 4-4 tie. Senior Riley Kling went the distance, allowing nine hits, walking none and striking out six.

Second round: Thursday, June 4

(1-1) Dock Mennonite vs. (11-1) NativityBVM:
The Pioneers repeated as district champs with a 4-0 victory over Plumstead Christian. Dock finished 10-2 in the BAL. ... Nativity BVM (8-14) defeated Benton 9-0 in the opening round.
