How they got here: District 2 champion Abington Heights defeated Upper Moreland, 6-0, in the first round, West Chester East, 9-5, in the quarterfinals and Upper Dublin, 7-0, in the semifinals. District 7 champion Shaler beat Red Land, 10-0, in five innings in the first round, Baldwin, 2-1, in the quarterfinals and Thomas Jefferson, 5-3, in 11 innings in the semifinals.

Breakdown: The Lady Comets enter Monday’s game with a 19-game winning streak, suffering their lone loss April 11 on the road at District 4 school Loyalsock. … Abington Heights is making its sixth PIAA appearance (10-5) and in the state final for the first time. … The District 2 champion Lady Comets are also the de facto champ of District 1, beating that district’s Nos. 4, 1 and 3 seeds en route to the final. … Junior and Syracuse commit Adrianna Condrad is 16-1 with a 1.31 earned-run average and 185 strikeouts. She also bats .471 (40 for 85) with 13 doubles, nine home runs, 16 runs and 36 RBIs. … Junior second baseman Eva Kane sparks the Lady Comets attack from the leadoff spot. She is batting .476 (39 for 82) with 13 doubles, four triples, three home runs, 41 runs and 18 RBIs. Her inside-the-park grand slam in the second inning of the state semifinal put Abington Heights in control early. … Junior left fielder Avary Brister is batting .611 (55 for 90) with 17 doubles, one triple, eight home runs, 40 runs and 44 RBIs. She collected her 100th career hit in the state semifinals. … Shaler is making its 15th PIAA appearance (28-12) and seventh trip to the final. However, in the bottom of the eighth inning, a relay from right fielder Haley Machajewski to second baseman Ellie Nickel to catcher Schaffold cut down the potential winning run at the plate and kept the game tied, 3-3. … In the quarterfinal win over Baldwin, Jayla Antoniacci had a RBI double with two outs in the bottom of the seventh to score Nickel with the winning run. Senior pitcher Bria Bosiljevac struck out 14 in that game, including 10 of the final 13. … Bosiljevac is an Indiana University commit. … These are the top two Class 5A teams in the Trib HSSN state rankings — Shaler No. 1, Abington Heights No. 2.

District 7 champ Union Area defeated Purchase Line in the first round, 12-9, Dubois Central Catholic in the quarterfinals, 5-4, in eight innings and Berlin Brothersvalley in the semifinals, 8-6.

Breakdown: Holy Cross, making its sixth PIAA appearance (6-5), is in the final for the first time. … Senior pitcher Schmidt is 21-3 with a 1.46 ERA and 215 strikeouts.
