Three players from the Lackawanna League earned major awards when the Pennsylvania High School Softball Coaches Association released its all-state team Monday.
Abbi Call of Valley View was named the Class 4A Player of the Year, Avary Brister from Abington Heights was selected the Class 5A Player of the Year, while teammate Adrianna Condrad was chosen Class 5A Pitcher of the Year.
Also, from the Wyoming Valley Conference, Lake-Lehman’s Hannah Chipego was tabbed as Class 3A Pitcher of the Year and Tunkhannock’s Michaela Howell as Class 4A Pitcher of the Year.
Overall, 41 players from District 2 were honored, including 28 from the Lackawanna League — 15 of them first-teamers.
Class 1A runner-up Holy Cross had five players: pitcher Ava Schmidt, catcher Peyton Graboske, second baseman Lila Kolcharno and outfielder Claire Helring on the first team, and shortstop Jules Galella on the second team. Old Forge put two players on the second team in shortstop Lillianna Lenceski and outfielder Ava Arnold.
District 2 champion Montrose put two players on the Class 2A first team in catcher MycKenna Kublo and outfielder Kyleise Kublo. Elk Lake had three players in first-team outfielder Brynn Warriner, second-team catcher Lydia Howell and second baseman Celeste Clark. Dunmore’s Rachel Walsh was named first-team utility.
Mid Valley, which won the District 2 title and reached the PIAA semifinals, had four players chosen in Class 4A. Pitcher Ava Hazelton and third baseman Parker Bennett were first-teamers, and shortstop Angela Laskowski and outfielder Marley Morano were second-teamers. Western Wayne had a pair of second-teamers in first baseman Hannah DeStefano and utility Adysen Wargo.
Joining Call on the Class 4A squad are Valley View teammates — second baseman Ella Swingle and outfielder Zoie Krupovich — on the second team.
Second baseman Eva Kane of state runner-up Abington Heights joined Brister and Condrad on the Class 5A first team. North Pocono had two players in first-team outfielder Avarie Roscioli and second-team pitcher Amelia Bell.
West Scranton’s Mia Tallo was selected second-team catcher in Class 6A.
Besides Chipego and Michaela Howell, players from the WVC named included Holy Redeemer’s Zoe Pecuch, Class 2A first-team second base; Lake-Lehman’s Kaitlyn Brudnicki, first-team catcher, and Julia Sholtis, second-team third base, in Class 3A; Tunkhannock’s Addisyn Waterman, first-team third base, Mackenzie Bevan, second-team catcher, Kianna Hannon, second-team third base, and Wyoming Area’s Josephine Kivak, second-team outfield, in Class 4A; Pittston Area’s Lilianna Hintze, second-team shortstop, and Samantha Herbert, second-team utility, in Class 5A; and Hazleton Area’s Saige Klesh, second-team first base, and Kayla Lagowy, second-team shortstop, in Class 6A.
Call missed some time in the middle of the season with shin splits, but returned in a big way, posting 59 consecutive scoreless innings and nine straight shutouts as Valley View captured its fourth straight District 2 Class 4A title and returned to the PIAA Class 4A final. Although Blackhawk ended the shutout streak in the first inning of the title game, Call was the winning pitcher as the Cougars won, 13-8, to repeat as Class 4A state champs.
She finished 17-2 with a 2.15 earned-run average and 167 strikeouts. Offensively, the Clemson University-bound senior batted .631 with 41 hits, including six doubles and 10 home runs, 27 runs and 37 RBIs.
Swingle batted .329 for Valley View with 28 hits, including three doubles, four triples, one home run, 32 runs and 17 RBIs. Krupovich batted .425 with 37 hits, including five doubles, one triple, five home runs — one of which came in the state final — 29 runs and 27 RBIs.
Brister and Condrad helped lead Abington Heights to the state final for the first time in program history. Brister batted .598 with 55 hits, including 17 doubles, one triple, eight home runs, 40 runs and 44 RBIs. Condrad added a .460 batting average with 40 hits, including 13 doubles, nine home runs, 16 runs and 36 RBIs. In the circle, the Syracuse University commit was 16-2 with a 1.57 ERA and 191 strikeouts.
Kane was the table setter for the Lady Comets. She batted .470 in the leadoff spot with 39 hits, including 13 doubles, four triples, three home runs, 41 runs and 18 RBIs.
Schmidt helped lead Holy Cross to its first state final appearance. She was 21-4 in the circle with a 1.59 ERA and 223 strikeouts. She batted .488 with 40 hits, including 14 doubles, three triples, seven home runs, 39 runs and 18 RBIs. Batterymate Graboske batted .474 with 36 hits, including seven doubles, one triple, 11 home runs, 23 runs and 38 RBIs. Kolcharno batted .361 with 30 hits, including eight doubles, one home run, 28 runs and 16 RBIs. Helring batted .406 with 28 hits, including three doubles, six home runs, 23 runs and 19 RBIs. Galella batted .422 with 28 hits, including six doubles, four home runs, 28 runs and 32 RBIs.
Lenceski batted .508 as Old Forge’s leadoff hitter with 30 hits, including six doubles, two triples, 27 runs and 12 RBIs. Arnold batted .403 with 27 hits, including four doubles, one triple, three home runs, 30 runs and 21 RBIs as the Lady Blue Devils finished as District 2 Class 1A runner-up.

She batted .493 with 37 hits, including seven doubles, four triples, four home runs, 36 runs and 37 RBIs. Kyleise Kublo batted .450 for the Lady Meteors with 36 hits, including seven doubles, one triple, eight home runs, 36 runs and 33 RBIs.
Warriner batted .500 for Elk Lake with 28 hits, including four doubles, three triples, five home runs, 28 runs and 30 RBIs. Lydia Howell batted .524 with 33 hits, including five doubles, six triples, three home runs, six runs and 20 RBIs. Clark batted .396 with 21 hits, including two doubles, two triples, six home runs, 21 runs and 24 RBIs.
Walsh helped Dunmore finish as District 2 Class 2A runner-up. She batted .467 with 35 hits, including seven doubles, one triple, seven home runs, 19 runs and 35 RBIs. She also went 7-5 in the circle with 75 strikeouts and a 3.04 ERA.
Hazelton was 21-4 for Mid Valley with a 1.98 ERA and 236 strikeouts. She also batted .320 with 16 hits, including four doubles, one triple, three home runs, 13 runs and 17 RBIs. Bennett batted .444 with 32 hits, including 11 doubles, one triple, 23 runs and 23 RBIs. Laskowski, a freshman, broke onto the scene by batting .447 with 38 hits, including 11 doubles, two triples, five home runs, 36 runs and 34 RBIs. Morano, another freshman, batted .463 with 31 hits, including one triple, 23 runs and 13 RBIs.
DeStefano batted .406 for Western Wayne with 26 hits, including two doubles, one triple, five home runs, 21 runs and 16 RBIs. Wargo batted .429 with 27 hits, including five doubles, two home runs, 12 runs and 19 RBIs.
Bell went 13-5 in the circle for North Pocono with a 2.29 ERA and 105 strikeouts. She also batted .413 with 31 hits, including eight doubles, two home runs, 18 runs and 18 RBIs. Roscioli led the Lady Trojans with a .529 batting average with 36 hits, including 10 doubles, six home runs, 26 runs and 24 RBIs.
Tallo helped West Scranton claim the District 2 Class 6A title by batting .446 with 33 hits, including six doubles, five home runs, 17 runs and 27 RBIs.
