There may be fewer big names in the Penn State running back room than in years past but the position group seems to be rounding into form once again. They have three strong options in Carson Hansen, James Peoples, and Quinton Martin Jr., but it was Peoples who caught everyone’s eye during one of the team’s recent practice.

He’s currently making his case for a large share of snaps this season and he did a great job of it on Wednesday. Nittany Lions coach Matt Campbell spoke to the media the following day and had a glowing endorsement of Peoples, saying, “James Peoples, if you said who was the star of yesterday’s practice, I think there’s no question James had a really special day.”

This shouldn’t be too surprising to anybody, as Peoples was a highly-rated recruit coming out of high school, he was just buried on the depth chart at Ohio State. Now he’s finally getting a chance to be truly showcased and is making the most of it.

Penn State has prided itself on having a strong running game for years now and it looks like Peoples will help them stick with that philosophy. Of course, he’ll likely be in a committee that sometimes rides with the hot hand, but his number will be called on plenty of times during the season and he’s instilling confidence in Campbell that he’ll deliver.
