Everyone was desperate to see how Penn State would fare in the recruiting game after they lost their stability following James Franklin’s firing. They hired a respected coach in Matt Campbell, but it was still expected to be a challenge to rebuild the trust they’d earned with recruits over the years.
Campbell has quickly put the concerns aside, though, nabbing three commitments from the Class of 2027 in the past week. With some blue-chip prospects who visited the school this week and more lined up for the rest of spring practices, the Nittany Lions are expected to land a few more players in the coming weeks.
This development has put schools around the country on notice, and respected recruiting analysts are opening their eyes as well. Brian Dohn of 247sports recently released a fresh batch of Crystal Ball predictions, including one that has Penn State landing four-star cornerback Kei’Shjuan Telfair.
The three commitments the school has received in the last week were all cornerbacks, which could be why Dohn thinks another one will be heading to central Pennsylvania. Telfair is a 6-0 cornerback who has offers from a number of College Football Playoff teams, like Indiana and Miami — who just competed in the national championship game — and Ohio State.
The Nittany Lions are also squarely in the mix for other top recruits from 2027 at key skill positions, so landing Telfair would be a huge step toward building one of the best recruiting classes in the nation for next year.
