Penn State has recently had several recruiting woes in the Class of 2027. However, there has been none quite like what has happened at running. After four-star prospect Aiden Gibson flipped to Rutgers, it seemed like all hope was lost for the Nittany Lions to potentially secure a running back of the future for their squad. Now, they could have an interesting consolation prize that could assuage any doubts about Matt Campbell's recruiting failures.
Sa'Nir Brooks is only a three-star recruit, but the Nittany Lions hope to do to what Rutgers did to them: flip him. Brooks initially committed to the Syracuse Orange in January, but decommitted just last month. Because of this and the fact that the Nittany Lions have already lost one of the two backs in the class, this opens up a possibility for Brooks to find a new home in Happy Valley.
The best part about Brooks is that while he doesn't play high school football in Pennsylvania, he is originally from Aliquippa, Pa. Should he sign with Penn State, many fans could potentially appreciate the move after several in-state recruiting struggles.
Still, any school that is in the race for Brooks face an uphill battle due to the fact that Brooks has not even visited many campuses in the past year. In fact, his last visit to Happy Valley was in 2024. In order for Penn State to remain frontrunners in the race, they may have to invite Brooks to a game day so that he can envision a role with the team.
For now, familiar recruiting foes Rutgers are in prime position to land Brooks, according to Rivals. Penn State cannot afford another loss in recruiting at the hands of a Big Ten laughingstock.
