Penn State's 2027 luck just keeps on running out. Still one of the best classes in the nation, several commitments over the past couple of weeks have simply not gone their way. On Thursday, they suffered another setback on the recruiting trail, losing out on three-star lineman Lucas Rhoa. Rhoa decided to choose Texas over the Nittany Lions, leaving Matt Campbell and his coaching staff reeling.

It could have been a positive end to the week for the Nittany Lions after landing Dhillon McGee. The cold irony is that despite them signing a Texas player away from two Texas schools, they couldn't get a player to stop from committing there. This one is also a painful loss for the Blue and White due to the fact that they held multiple visits with Rhoa. In fact, he visited Happy Valley seven times, including their official visit weekend from June 12-14.

However, the fact that Penn State never truly gained the upper hand could explain Rhoa's decision. even on prediction sites such as Rivals, Penn State's chances of getting Rhoa never exceeded 37 percent, potentially allowing Texas to swoop in. The only positive takeaway for the Nittany Lions is that they already have four offensive linemen in their class. Still, Rhoa could have been another valuable asset to add to the depth of the squad.
