The Pittsburgh Penguins are urged to make a bold move to acquire a star center to bolster the lineup.

Detroit Red Wings captain and first-line center Dylan Larkin has reportedly requested a trade after the team failed to make the postseason again. With Larkin requesting a trade, several teams will be after him, as he’s a perfect second-line center on a Stanley Cup-winning team.

Following Larkin’s trade request, Penguins analyst Josh Yohe believes Pittsburgh acquiring him makes a lot of sense.

“The Penguins are looking for an impactful forward, preferably a young one,” Yohe wrote. “They have an enormous amount of cap space. They have draft picks and prospects to offer, too. Larkin isn’t a youngster, but I still think he makes a lot of sense for the Penguins. I’d be surprised if Kyle Dubas doesn’t inquire.”

Larkin has five years left on an eight-year, $69.6 million deal, as he’s owed just $8.7 million per season, which is a reasonable cap hit.

The Olympic gold medalist would be Pittsburgh’s second-line center and add some more depth to the forward group. With the Penguins bringing back Evgeni Malkin and still having Sidney Crosby on the roster, the time to win is now, so a trade for Larkin does make sense for Pittsburgh.

Larkin recorded 34 goals and 33 assists for 67 points in 74 games and is a star shutdown centerman.
